Best Use of Dining Plan Point: You can order a la carte or buffet, but the buffet is the best deal. All-you-care-to-eat always gives you the most "bang" for your buck.
Experience: A couple of years ago, the hubs and I figured out what a hidden gem this place is, when we visited for lunch and had some fantastic sandwiches and the best steak fries ever. Then, on another trip, we needed one more dinner on a Dining Plan Point and since Captain's Grille is pretty much always available, we tried it out. Man, we were surprised by the fantastic steaks and seafood and delectable desserts. It's like a toned-down version of The Yachtsman Steakhouse, in a way. We had not tried breakfast yet, and I had read reviews saying that the buffet was very good. It also happens to be one of the least expensive breakfast buffets on Disney property, along with Trail's End, coming in at just around $20 per person. No brainer, right?
We were able to book our reservation for that morning. We booked the 10:30am reservation, and after valet parking and checking into the podium, we were sat right on time. The restaurant has a nautical theme to it that still manages to feel fresh and not cheesy. When we sat down, our server gave us the a la carte menus, but said we also had the option of the all-you-care-to-eat buffet if we chose. (We chose.) The a la carte menu did look pretty fantastic. I mean, Dark Chocolate Waffles with Espresso Mascarpone Cream? Yes, please. But since I am a gal that likes variety, the buffet won out. A chef was sent over to walk me through the buffet, in order to address K's egg allergy. There was plenty of fruit, cereal and other things that K could eat, but the chef also offered to make K egg-free Mickey waffles, so K was smitten. (Come on, who doesn't love Mickey waffles?)
Aside from fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, and baked goods, the buffet had a fantastic variety of egg dishes available. (3 different frittatas, scrambled eggs and an egg pinwheel!) The hubs fell instantly in love with the Egg Pinwheel at first sight. The scrambled eggs were wrapped around crispy potatoes and two kings of cheese, and then smothered with sausage gravy. It was pretty phenomenal. Egg-gasmic, maybe even. All of the food was hot and fresh, and pretty consistently refilled. It wasn't super busy, so some of the pans did stay empty for a bit, but as soon as we let the chef behind the buffet know there was something we wanted, a fresh new pan would come out. The kids were pretty psyched because they had a toppings bar for the pancakes, waffles and French toast, which included sprinkles. Sprinkles are like crack to toddlers, I swear. They don't care what they are on, or what they have to do to get them, but they MUST. HAVE. SPRINKLES. K had sprinkles in his yogurt and on his Mickey Waffles. I actually decided to have a "dessert waffle" myself, with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. Pretty bomb. Not gonna lie, I had a second one too.

We completely enjoyed our food, our service and the calm, quietness of the restaurant. We never felt rushed or like we were an inconvenience. The food was great, and the price was right. Tink's family was a group of happy campers by the time we paid our check and rolled out of there.
When we were done with breakfast, K tried to talk us into going to Epcot. Well, more like yell us into going to Epcot. And considering the meltdowns that he was starting to experience, I could tell that a nap would be a far better choice than Epcot just then. Especially since Epcot was slammed and it was 5 bazillion degrees out. Another day, kid. Like maybe September. Yeah, September should be cool enough and quiet enough.

Tink's Tots Try It Out: According to D (6 yo girl) D, what did you like about Captain's Grille?   "It was great! The food looked good. What's that word???"   You mean 'presentation'?   "Yeah, the presentation was nice."   Woah, we're getting pretty sophisticated with our reviews here, huh? What else did you like?   "I really liked the pancakes. The fruit was really good and sweet and I liked that they had sprinkles for the waffles and yogurt and fruit and pancakes and stuff."   I am pretty sure that the sprinkles were not meant to be an accompaniment to ALL of the items on the buffet, but hey, to each his own, right?   (Looks at me with a blank stare.) "I liked the sprinkles. Kids will like them. But I liked that one at Fort Wilderness more. They had more food that I liked."   Oh, ok. So you liked Trail's End better. That's a good note. You're getting really good at this, D.   "I know."
Tink's Tots Try It Out: According to K (2 yo boy)  Did you like breakfast at Captain's Grille, K?   "Ummmmm.....yeah. I like bek-fist."   I know you like breakfast. You're a huge breakfast fan. You go through more cereal in a week than most teenagers do.   "Noooo, Mamma! Mamma silly?"   Mamma's being silly you think?   "Yeah, Mamma.... tickle, tickle, tickle!" (Scratches my arm in a rather rough manner.)    We gotta work on the concept of 'gentle', dude. Ouch.   "Mamma has a boo-boo? I kees." (Kisses my arm.)   You are too cute, kid. Ok, back to Captain's Grille. What was your favorite thing to eat there? (I show him pictures on my phone, so he remembers what he ate.)   "Ummmmm...." ('Um' is his new thing.) "Ummmmmm...... grapes!"   Yogurt? You can have that anywhere. Is that really what you liked the best?   "Yogurt and sprinkles!"   (And there you have it, folks. Give the kids sprinkles and they are pleased as punch. Maybe I should try sprinkles on vegetables. Hmmm.....)
Will we be back: Yup! We will make this a regular breakfast spot, for sure, based on the value. We also love lunch AND dinner here, so we will be back soon.
