Extra! Extra! Tink All About It!: D23 Expo Recap, Day One

Good morning, Tinkers!

Have you been following along with all of the reports coming out of the D23 Expo this weekend? I have been loving it, so far! Tons of news out of Disney Animation and Pixar! If you haven't been caught up, no worries. I'm here to help. Since it's only 7am on the West Coast right now, D23 hasn't started up yet for today, so let's recap everything we learned Friday:

1. We learned a little more detail about Skipper Canteen, the new restaurant coming to The Magic Kingdom. It will have a Jungle Cruise theme and the servers will be Jungle Cruise Skippers. (I'm guess there will be a whole lot of "punny" humor going on.) There will be multiple dining rooms, including a Mess Hall, and the secret meeting room of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers. (I smell an Adventurer's Club tie-in!) The restaurant is due to open in late 2015.

2. Scale models of Pandora, the imaginative world from Avatar, showed Guests some of what they can expect to see when they visit Animal Kingdom in 2017, including the Floating Mountains, the Bioluminescent Plants that will light up the landscape, and some of the strange creatures they will encounter.

3. An exhibit showed off all of the new wonders coming to the new Shanghai Disneyland in 2016. Displays showed the new Tron Lightcycles ride, and the Toy Story Hotel, among many other new and exciting concepts.

The Stuff of (Disney) Legends at D23 EXPO 2015

4. New Disney Legends were inducted, including George Bodenheimer (Executive Chairman of ESPN), Andreas Deja (Disney Animator), Eyvind Earle (Disney Artist), Danny Elfman (Composer), George Lucas (Filmmaker), Susan Lucci (Actress), Julie Reihm Casaletto (The First Disney Ambassador), and Carson Von Osten (Disney Artist). Then there was one more HUGE surprise for the D23 fans: One last inductee.... Johnny Depp! If I was there, I may have freaked out, just a bit.

Tinkin' About Disney's photo.5. Speaking of Johnny Depp, poster art was released for the sequel to the live action version of Alice in Wonderland, called Alice Through the Looking Glass. I'm very excited about this one! It hits theaters May 27th, 2016.

6. There was a panel all about The Muppets, where the new show, coming to ABC this fall, was discussed.

7. Tons of animation and Pixar news and previews! Guests got to see clips and previews of The Good Dinosaur (Nov. 25th, 2015), Zootopia (Mar. 4th, 2016), Finding Dory (Jun. 17th, 2016), and the one I'm looking forward to the most, Moana (Nov. 23rd, 2016). We also learned that a Jack and the Beanstalk themed film, called Gigantic will be coming out in 2018, as will a Pixar movie about Dia de Los Muertos, called Coco. There was also confirmation that we will be getting an Incredibles 2, a Cars 3, and a Toy Story 4! In fact, we learned that Toy Story 4 will focus on the love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Oh, and Guests got to see the new Pixar short, based on Inside Out, called Riley's First Date. It will be included in the DVD release of Inside Out, this fall. All good stuff!

I'm looking forward to today, for sure. This evening will be the big Walt Disney World forum, in which it is expected that Bob Iger will make announcements about what we can see coming to Orlando in the next few years. CAN'T WAIT! Stay tuned!!!!
