Tinkin' About...Letting It Go

Good evening, Tinkers!

So this past week we had company. My mom flew in on a wickid fast plane from Boston, which means we had an excuse for extra park time and extra meals and experiences around "The World". On Monday night, we got to do something special... The Frozen Fireworks Spectacular, as part of the The Coolest Summer Ever Celebration at the Disney Hollywood Studios.

Because it was like, INSANELY hot, (isn't it ironic, don't ya think?), we did not get a chance to experience all that is the Frozen Takes Over the World Celebration. (Not the official name.)
Welcome to The Disney Frozen Studios
We will have to come back another day to see Olaf's Summer Cool Down stage show and the Frozen Royal Welcome parade, but we did shake our booties at the Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party, before the fireworks.

I was sort of thinking it would be non-stop "Love Is an Open Door" and "Let It Go", but much to the delight of my husband and myself, and the dismay of our embarrassed daughter, DJ Chill rocked out some old school 80's and 90's pop favorites, along with typical dance-along party music like the "Cupid Shuffle" and "Cha-Cha Slide" and yes, some Frozen tunes scattered in. The DJ even encouraged us parents to embarrass our kiddos as much as possible by belting out the lyrics to "Don't Stop Believing" and "Ice Ice Baby", to which the hubs and I were happy to oblige. D and K had a blast dancing around, and even got to boogie with Chip and Dale and Minnie and Mickey, dressed in their summer best. They were having so much fun that they almost seemed to forget about the 100 degree weather and the fact that we still had another 2 hours until the show started. I, on the other hand, was melting faster than Olaf in a tanning bed.
Party Rockin!
K found a dance partner

Eventually, Nonnie, the hubs and I needed some refreshments, so I walked over to Min and Bills and grabbed us some franks in pretzel rolls, and some waters. We all happily munched, as we stood planted in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard, up toward the stage, so that we would have a good view for the fireworks. After much waiting, and the purchasing of some Frozen light up merchandise to keep the littles smiling, and an Olaf slushie to keep the littles from passing out, the DJ music came to an end and Princess Anna took to the stage. She did a little show with her beloved ice-lugger BF, Kristoff, and that lovable, ever-chill snowman, Olaf. They talked about the fun day they had and said that if they could see all of the fun they had, it would look like colorful sparkles, and the next thing you know... BOOM! The first fireworks took to the sky in a rainbow explosion over the Chinese Theater. (Hooray for the Hat being gone!) If you've never seen fireworks at Hollywood Studios, make it a priority to catch a show. They only do fireworks for special events, like Star Wars Weekends and the Fourth of July, but they are truly a sight to behold. You know those "sprays" and "fans" of fireworks that surround the Castle during Wishes? Well The Studios is the first place that Disney really tried anything like that. For the original fireworks show, "Sorcery In the Sky", special fireworks launching platforms were mounted on the roofs of the Great Movie Ride, to create some amazing visual effects. The only thing that can be tough is that to get the best view, you really need to be on Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Chinese Theater, which is a pretty limited area. You don't want to be too close to the buildings, or you'll be staring straight up, and you don't want to be too far down toward the entrance of the park, or the buildings and trees will block your view. Hence, why we stood in one spot, in the heat, with a toddler, like crazy people, for over two hours.
     But look......  Oooo, ahhhhhh!!!!

After "For the First Time in Forever", and "Love Is An Open Door", we knew it must almost be time for the movie anthem to end all movie anthems, but where was Adele Nazeem?...woah! I mean, Elsa! All eyes went back to the stage and the ice queen herself entered to try and revive a melting Olaf, since the heat of the fireworks was getting to him. She asked the audience if it would be ok if she used her powers to help him. D and K jumped up and down and screeched, "YESSSSS!!!!!" Elsa said those magic words, "Let it go!", and the most beautiful, glittery fireworks filled the skies. K was in my arms, grinning from ear to ear, and singing along, word for word. Every now and then he'd whisper, "Mamma, fiya-wooks. Elsa-Anna fiya-wooks." He was in heaven. Kid loves him some pyrotechnics. As for D, well, she was happy as a clam, dancing and using elaborate hand swishes to make the sparkly explosions in the sky appear, (at least in HER mind, that's what was happening). After an incredible finale, the characters were back on stage thanking the citizens of Hollywoodland for coming to Arendelle, and waving goodbye. And there was one last surprise... SNOW on all of Hollywood Boulevard!
Every kid was grasping at the falling flakes as though they wanted to take them home as souvenirs. It's so awesome to watch such utter delight. Equally as awesome to watch the utter disgust when those kids realize they just ate soap willingly. I know, I am a tiny bit villainous!
Since we only came in for the show, we headed out after that. We were melty, sweaty messes. But I gotta say, some magical memories are worth melting for!
